It’s been a while since I have had a chance to post. I began substitute teaching in the fall. Some of my dear teacher friends pointed out to me that perhaps having my photo right there with some of my posts was not the best idea. Blogging about work was a definite no-no. Chances are good at some point I have written something that would offend someone, but that really is nothing new. I found myself with a wicked case of writer’s block.

Communication Barriers

Toddlers are amazing little critters, aren’t they? I am usually amazed with my interactions with actual critters. My cats want to go to bed shortly after my kids do, and meow to tell me they are ready. My chickens will hear the back door close and come running up to me if I try to close up their coop too early (and hey, I might have food). My Grams’ dog knows when they are going to go for a ride before she even grabs the car keys. So sure, it makes sense that little humans are pretty darn smart too, even if they cannot always demonstrate it.

Today my oldest, Tater, turns eight. Since I am around him all the time, I tend to take for granted the quirky excellence that is my son’s trademark. I see that he is getting taller, but it isn’t until he flips on the kitchen faucet that I realize just how tall! Or he will ask a random (yet intelligent) question that just leaves me stupefied that 1) he asked it and 2) how the heck am I going to answer that?

Tonight I find myself doing the same thing I’ve done for the past two nights. Miss Sassy Pants is down in Florida with the grandparents and the hubster is in New Orleans. So yes… Julia is in bed and here I sit (again) watching a 3rd-rate movie on Netflix. Whoever invented Netflix really knew how to cure an exhausted soul! I’d break out a bottle of wine, but it’s 2:36 in the morning. On a weekday that might make me a lush…well, and I have to breastfeed in 4 hours.

Finances can be tight when you are doing the whole SAHM thing. I try not to look at the Sunday sale ads beyond groceries, because I hate to have something catch my eye that really isn’t necessary. Shiny, new things that really aren’t in the budget, you know?
