What do Wolves Eat?

I spent the better part of Thursday morning waiting in an auditorium filled with parents and children.  Just my luck, I happened to be seated in the row directly in front of two young ladies who have spent a few years honing their skills to near perfection in “teen speak.” Every now and again, I’d lean over to my daughter and mutter, “If you ever…..”   After the first hour, I was begging for sharp implements with which to stab my eardrums and put me out of my misery.

Why? Pray. Why Pray?

Several weeks ago, I posted about a family struggling with their child’s fatal illness.  Sadly, that child passed away Friday nite.  He was too young.  The news rocked our community and my soul.  It left me begging the question “why” into the hot, suffocating air.

Groundhog Day

We had a rough morning today.  The baby, JD, was in to everything.  This does not make it easy to cook breakfast, and I was doing it up right.  Ok, no pancakes, but if there is fruit, meat, toast and eggs, there better not be any complaining.

Mommy and Me

I’ve been trying to get this “Urban Mom” thing down for some time now.  The last time I was mom to a toddler, flannel was on the way out and the coolest thing out of Seattle was a coffee company that based its business plan on rabbit husbandry.  Not to mention, I lived in the “sticks.”  I did the retro version of parenting based on my own upbringing.  It’s called, “Go outside and play!”

It’s Your Thing

“It’s your thing.  Do what you wanna do.  I can’t tell you who to sock it to.”

-Isley Brothers

Do you know what your ‘thing’ is?  I mean… what are you really, really good at?  What defines you?  What sets you apart from The Others?  You know.  What’s your… thing?

Facebook 101

I am a 30-something Facebook junkie. Next year I’ll be a 40-year-old Facebook junkie. Better than a 40-year-old virgin. You’d think…but that might be an entire other blog post in itself. Just sayin’. The fact is, Mark Zuckerberg was on to something when he one-upped Myspace Tom -you know Myspace Tom, he’s everybody’s friend friend hoarder…

A couple of years ago, like many others, I flew from the “kooky coop” for a bit of friendly banter with “real” people. Don’t throw rotten tomatoes if I once called you my Myspace friend and now you are my IRL friend. Just ask yourself, “How long did that take? Was it really worth it?” Oh, and then don’t delete me.

Motivated Mondays – Being an Over-Achiever HAS to be Over-Rated

I am a good Mom. No, I am a great Mom…or so I keep telling myself that. I’m not really into “pats on the back” so the words are usually converted into little bites of Godiva, which means that there are a lot of little empty gold bags laying around. They make for elegant decor…or doggie-doo bags. Just don’t mistake the new from the old. Yes, it’s Monday. Just sayin’.

The Long of The Short of It

I don’t have a lot of hair. I wish I had a lot of hair. But, instead, I have a few thin strands that I keep coloring and moving around my head to create the illusion of thick, luxurious hair. My mom refers to it as ‘cat fur’… puny, malnourished, mange-infested cat fur.

How Do We Do This?

I have been on vacation and generally running amok like a chicken with my head cut off.  Shocker.  Who the hell isn’t, right?  During the amokness, I have been racking (or is it wracking?) my brain trying to come up with a funny blog topic.  I’ve had a few false starts, but nothing really culminated into something I could proudly re-read to myself the next day (don’t pretend you don’t do this).  Maybe the funny post hasn’t come to me because I needed to write something (dare I say it)…. un-funny.

Puddle of Mommy

Oh my, it has been HOT here.  I was raised in Central Texas, so I tend to scoff at our summers here.  When we had the new furnace installed and they asked if we wanted central air conditioning, I said “no way!”  Truly, we don’t need it except for the rare weeks like this one.  We have a nearly constant breeze out here on the “prairie” and a nice shade tree in the back yard.  We also have two window units to make life tolerable when a heat wave such as this hits.  I keep thinking the kids are going to find a puddle in front of the garage, with nothing left but the tank top and shorts I was wearing.
