JD has really taken a shine to reading lately. Not just paging through his board books, but actually bringing me books and telling me “wead!” True to his age, he really enjoys the same book over and over and over. I have read “Where Is Baby’s Pumpkin?” so many times in the past two days it has gone from cute to “good grief, let me dig out our old flap books for a change of pace”.

Toddlers are amazing little critters, aren’t they? I am usually amazed with my interactions with actual critters. My cats want to go to bed shortly after my kids do, and meow to tell me they are ready. My chickens will hear the back door close and come running up to me if I try to close up their coop too early (and hey, I might have food). My Grams’ dog knows when they are going to go for a ride before she even grabs the car keys. So sure, it makes sense that little humans are pretty darn smart too, even if they cannot always demonstrate it.
I have joked in the past about sibling rivalry and jealousy. Sometimes it is so subtle that you do not even really notice it, like when my husband would hug and kiss me good bye. Tater would run up and wrap himself around my leg or wiggle between us to get in on the love fest. Other than that, it never really dawned on him to be jealous, even when a strange kid would end up plopping in my lap at the library to read a story.
I really do not like to leave the house in the evening, particularly when it is just the kids and me. Even if we managed to have a dinner where everything went rather well, and only a small portion of food landed on the floor, that in no way means venturing out into the world is a good idea.
