I didn’t know I was teaching music appreciation until the hubster told me.   Seriously.

I never thought about the eclectic collection of music that I play while conducting daily lessons; it’s merely music that I’ve collected over the years and (mostly) still like.  Sure, it dates me a bit -(so does the gray in my hair and I’m not worried about THAT) but I’m not trying to be hipster mom.  Matter of fact, I don’t WANT to listen to the “new stuff” (oh gosh, now I DO sound like “A MOM”) because then I have to listen to every song to decide whether the lyrics/content are appropriate for my 8 year old girl child.  So my new justification for NOT listening is that I’m teaching music appreciation!

I am a hoarder    collector    saver reuser of items.  I was doing it long before it became fashionably “green” to reduce, reuse, recycle.  I blame credit my mother and grandmother who never lost some of the depression era frugality (there was always a can of used cooking grease/lard in the house).

I “acquire” things (sometimes in quantity) and hold onto them (sometimes for too long) because you never know when you might need them.

But this IS a picture from a field trip we took with our homeschool group.   It was a charming one room school house – all original complete with NO PLUMBING and an outhouse (you don’t want to know about that) and offers 1/2 day sessions featuring life at school in the 1800′s.

When strangers find that I homeschool my daughter, they unload a barrage of questions.  For some they’re  merely curious because they don’t KNOW about homeschooling but for others  – well they make their questions a downright challenge.  Underlying each question is “What right do you have denying your child a public education?” !?!  There’s a complete blog entry for that one…………..
