It’s not a secret. Sometimes marriage sucks. Men and women just don’t think alike. Maybe that’s why John Gray has made millions. How can you love somebody and yet detest them with every fiber of your being. How does that happen when 15 years ago you couldn’t wait to spend an evening hanging out with them?

I love to get my fry on. Sure, I try to feed my family healthy foods. We have a garden that provides us with many of our vegetables; plus strawberries, grapes and apples grow in the yard. We don’t eat out all that often, but enough that my youngest knows to say “mmm” when he sees the Golden Arches or any given fast food joint. I watch Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and rejoice that our children’s private school serves primarily “homemade” foods.

Yes, sometimes I feel like Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. I have a protocol, and failure to abide by the protocol will have its consequences.

It has been a hard transition from SAHM to working only part time mom. Now that I spend my morning hours at work, I find it harder to do certain things. Grocery shopping? Ha! I used to do it on mornings while the kids were in school, but before Hubby went to work. I don’t have that now. And really, it just never seems like a good time to do my big grocery shopping. Do I drag three kids after school? Do I drag him out of bed on the weekends so I can go (which means he will be wearing his crabby pants)?

We have had an ongoing mice problem in the garage. It wasn’t really an issue for me. I kept the bird seed in a metal trashcan. There, no big deal! I have always had cats in the house, and sometimes outdoors cats. Needless to say, the mice do not come inside.

I will always champion the single parents and military spouses. I really do not think I am made of the material they are to handle the enormous task of parenting on my own. While my own situation is not ideal, with my husband working second shift and every weekend, we have managed to strike up some bargains that make it seem a bit more equitable, playing on the other’s likes and dislikes.

One of the great things about marriage is the whole partnership aspect of it. I mean sure, there are MANY great things about marriage, but after the glow wears off and you realize forever is hard work, someone having your back is a very excellent thing. Especially since that doesn’t come up nearly as often as the opportunity to give each other grief.

My grandma warned me about men’s work. “You keep lifting/shoveling/digging like you do, and you will feel it when you are my age. That’s men’s work!” She’s probably right, but I am stubborn and impatient, so I end up getting myself into all sorts of mischief I really shouldn’t (there was incident with replacing the toilet seal, and then installing laminate flooring while in my first trimester).

But, instead, I have a few thin strands that I keep coloring and moving around my head to create the illusion of thick, luxurious hair. My mom refers to it as ‘cat fur’… puny, malnourished, mange-infested cat fur.

There are times when you are tired. Tired as in, “I’m going to sit down and take a load off.” I’m not that kind of tired. My 7lb-2oz.”load” was taken off April 2nd at 1:36am. That’s why I haven’t been around. What? You never even noticed. I’m just going to chalk that up as you, too, are having a”tired” kind of month. Oh, I’m not tired. I am exhausted. Exhausted is when you don’t remember your name. Exhausted is when your phone rings and you hit the timer on the microwave to stop the ringing in your head. Yes, I am exhausted.
