Recently we started advertising that we had eggs for sale. I now have a few regular customers. It is nice to convert people to the joys of fresh eggs! I won’t get too preachy here about the treatment of those poor chickens living in warehouses, but it really is appalling. Not to mention you really do sacrifice quality for quantity.

I can’t say that I spend my time longing to be famous. Rich? Sure. But famous? That sounds like way too much work, especially for someone who detests having to fix her hair and slap on spackle for even part time work. I can imagine myself being spotlighted in some trashy magazine with captions mocking my wardrobe and general appearance. There’s a certain peace that comes with knowing you are a prime candidate for “What Not To Wear” and somehow soldiering on with your life.

Recently both Linus and JD visited the dentist. Neither had cavities. This is a big deal for Linus, who will not graduate to the family dentist until he has multiple cavity free check ups. The pediatric dentist is great and all, but the drive is a bit much. Linus is also pleased because this means he can drink pop a little more often.

My little flock of brown and red chickens (plus Sammi, the banty) hit their stride in egg production. While this was great at Christmas, not just for baking but for gifts, it became a tad overwhelming to see my whole top shelf in the fridge filled with eggs. My family had eggs. Hubby’s family had eggs. I began randomly taking eggs to my chiropractor, the lady who does our taxes, anyone who would reasonably enjoy eggs as a thank you.

My poor husband. He wanted to have a Super Bowl party of sorts. Mostly just having his family over and an excuse to break out the deep fryer. We aren’t really invested in any of the teams. His brothers are not sports fans. Our kids aren’t really old enough to sit still and watch a long winded sporting event. Me? Let me know when the commercials are on!

Toddlers are so entertaining! JD has reached a milestone with his speech, meaning I can understand more of what he says and not just intuitively know what he wants. He has started interacting with the tv, which I find hilarious. I was washing dishes when I heard Mickey Mouse ask “would you like to come inside my clubhouse?” JD says “no!” He will guess the Mouse-ka-tool though, and I am continually impressed with how bright he is. Okay, until he pulls the little step stool up to the counter and pries the lid off the cookie jar. Then his ingenuity is a tad aggravating.

For the most part, I love being a Stay at Home Mom. But, on occasion, being part of the “hey, today I can wear pajamas…again” club makes me want to scream. With my eldest being a “one hand on the hip…roll your eyes to the right…and sigh” chick-a-dee, and my youngest in the midst of a terrible bout of separation anxiety that makes my head want to explode, I think what I’m about to announce can be understood:

Once upon a time, I lived in Houston and went to daycare. In hindsight I have to figure that it was a pretty cool daycare because we often went to the roller rink after school. Most of my memories of that time are vague, because I was pretty young. I do remember a battle over spinach, and to this day I do not eat greens that have been canned or cooked beyond recognition. Bygones.

I would like to welcome Alicia as my guest today. I have been a fan of hers for years, way back to when MySpace was popular (ha ha!). I especially loved this piece on kindness. Too often the people I live with are wearing their “grumpy pants” rather than their “kindness boots.” It reminded me that setting a good example of treating others the way I want to be treated, well, it is a constant lesson. Demonstrating patience and kindness for those we cherish most is important, but it easily falls to the wayside with sibling rivalry and the antics of the witching hour. I am seldom the picture of patience or kindness when the boys decide that quiet reading before bedtime means “run through the house screaming and winding the toddler up”.

It’s been a while since I have had a chance to post. I began substitute teaching in the fall. Some of my dear teacher friends pointed out to me that perhaps having my photo right there with some of my posts was not the best idea. Blogging about work was a definite no-no. Chances are good at some point I have written something that would offend someone, but that really is nothing new. I found myself with a wicked case of writer’s block.
