When Collin was three, I was asked to babysit for the evening.  Usually he would have been fed and bathed before I arrived, but not this time.  When it got close to his bedtime, I decided to bathe him.  Now it must be said Ihadn’t bathed a squirmy toddler in decades, let alone a little boy child, and my bones were hurting from our rambunctios play time.

I was trying to keep an eye on Collin and draw a bath at the same time.  When there was a few inches in the tub, I undressed him and put him in the water, which was cooler than I intended.  He wasn’t at all happy, I wasn’t making much of a headway with the whole ritual and none too happy either.

When I finally got him wrapped up in a towel and dried his tears, he declared, “Nana doesn’t give great baths!”   When parental units arrived, he announced to them, “Nana doesn’t give great baths!”   For the next year, whenever I babysat, I would ask him if he needed a bath and his answer was always, “No, Nana, you don’t give great baths!”   He wasn’t shy about sharing it with family friends and probably would have with strangers given the chance.  Nana gave up on the bathing duty!

Cute. You do know that now they make those great little “temperature gauges” for the kids… of course, it is always so hard to know if the water is too hot or too cold! I always had that problem as a Mom…

My little one (2 1/2 yrs.) is hot and cold herself about baths. One day she is eager to bathe, the next she has to be forcibly shampooed. It’s a no win, so I take it with a grain of salt. Kudos for attempting the bath. I don’t know if my mom could handle our little squirmy, temperamental mermaid.

  3. My girls’ Nana and Grandma have found a cure for bathtime — it’s definitely more time to play than it is time to clean! :-) Ducks, balls, crayons, little dress-up things that stick to the shower walls… They think Mommy’s baths are BORING! :-D

Most of the time for my three-year-old son, his bath consists of running the water, pulling out his boat toys, washing his hair and then his body, draining the water, putting away the toys, and then getting out. Usually about seven minutes!!! Those are the days that I did not feel like giving him a bath, but did anyway, for fear of someone, by chance, “smelling” him! LOL
