Tales from the Diaper Pail

Not to brag or anything, but on a previous blogging venue, I was rather known for my poop stories.  Ok, obviously I am not boasting, since it is really a sad indicator of what your life can become when you are a stay at home mom: Do I have some stories for you!

Groundhog Day

We had a rough morning today.  The baby, JD, was in to everything.  This does not make it easy to cook breakfast, and I was doing it up right.  Ok, no pancakes, but if there is fruit, meat, toast and eggs, there better not be any complaining.

Talkin’ Texan

I like to joke about the way I talk.  I tend to describe it  as like Ray Romano and Fran Drescher had a love child.  It’s a unique blend of Midwestern nasal twang combined with a Texas accent on occasion.

Men’s Work

My grandma warned me about men’s work.  “You keep lifting/shoveling/digging like you do, and you will feel it when you are my age.  That’s men’s work!”  She’s probably right, but I am stubborn and impatient, so I end up getting myself into all sorts of mischief I really shouldn’t (there was incident with replacing the toilet seal, and then installing laminate flooring while in my first trimester).

That Darn Rubber Snake

I married a practical joker.  It is not a primary trait, but it lies in wait.  I married him even after he put a giant rubber tarantula on the toilet while I was asleep.  Since I am merely a few years away from needing my own seeing eye dog, you can imagine my horror in the middle of the night!  A giant arachnid in the glow of the nightlight, and me with my 20/2000 vision.  It wasn’t pretty.  Or quiet.

Puddle of Mommy

Oh my, it has been HOT here.  I was raised in Central Texas, so I tend to scoff at our summers here.  When we had the new furnace installed and they asked if we wanted central air conditioning, I said “no way!”  Truly, we don’t need it except for the rare weeks like this one.  We have a nearly constant breeze out here on the “prairie” and a nice shade tree in the back yard.  We also have two window units to make life tolerable when a heat wave such as this hits.  I keep thinking the kids are going to find a puddle in front of the garage, with nothing left but the tank top and shorts I was wearing.

BREAKING NEWS: King trumps Queen

This morning I was sitting at the kitchen table with Madison. She grinned and announced, “Yesterday Daddy made me a cocktail.” I assured her that Daddy would never have made a cocktail but she insisted. “He even split a grape and put it on the cup!” I immediately ran upstairs and asked if our 5-year-old would be joining AA in the near future.

Father’s Day

I hate to say it, but I have spent most of this Father’s Day not thinking about what day it is.  Between my husband’s crazy work schedule and our other responsibilities (volunteering, t-ball) I knew we would not celebrate until his weekend, starting tomorrow.

Mommy’s Mischief

It’s another gray, blustery day here in Michigan.  My energy levels are still in “summer mode” even if the weather is not, so I have been doing some fixing around the house.  Sleeping in until 8 every day is a beautiful thing!

Campfire Stories

Campfire stories, also known as urban legends, are meant to scare you.  However, depending on your age, what scares you can vary greatly.  Kids are afraid of the monsters in their closet.  For teenagers I imagine it would be the man with a hook for a hand, or no bars on their cell phone.  For mothers, there is the obvious fear of something horrible happening to our offspring or our partners.
