Sometimes the isolation of being a stay at home mom gets to be too much. It isn’t like I am chained to the stove or anything, but sometimes the mere thought of leaving the house exhausts me. You know those days where a shower and drying your hair sounds like way too much effort? Coupled with putting something on the toddler that isn’t stained, packing his bag, making sure it isn’t nap time; it just gets overwhelming.

It is hard to be a woman. Seriously. Oh wait? I was stating the obvious? My bad.

As women, we know how hard it is. However, for teenage girls, it seems to be a whole new ballgame. When I was in high school, and on the cusp of junior sizes, I was a size zero. Unfortunately, size 3 was as low as it went, and I was doomed to wear children’s clothing. And have my mom sew my prom dress for our eighth grade prom (which is a stupid idea to begin with). She ordered me a lovely dress, but when I pushed those spaghetti straps over my shoulders, that dress hit the floor, without touching a curve on the way down.

My grandma warned me about men’s work. “You keep lifting/shoveling/digging like you do, and you will feel it when you are my age. That’s men’s work!” She’s probably right, but I am stubborn and impatient, so I end up getting myself into all sorts of mischief I really shouldn’t (there was incident with replacing the toilet seal, and then installing laminate flooring while in my first trimester).

Amid much personal turmoil I’ve been experiencing lately, came this little spiky nugget of information that hit me right where it hurts, my ego. I am a fashion don’t. I was completely unaware of the large black bar hanging over my eyeballs that, apparently, is visible to everyone else within camera range.

How to raise two girls to be sports junkies? Well, to be honest, the formula is still a work in progress. I won’t have definitive proof until they become college students. But that hasn’t stopped any athletic supplement makers, so I won’t let it stop me either. So, here is what I’ve learned so far:
