One of the Frequently Asked Questions of homeschoolers:  How will your child learn social skills if she’s homeschooled? How will she learn to interact with children her age?  Many homeschooling moms have snarky comebacks suggesting that their child won’t have to tolerate the bad language, inappropriate behavior, advanced knowledge of sex,  bullying, mean girls, etc. because he/she won’t walk the halls of a public school system.

No doubt YOU sang that little ditty at some point in your youth.

You had that one teacher….you know the one…that made school intolerable and had you longing for summer vacation.  The one that made you go home and say to your parents “I HATE SCHOOL!”

I love the Olympic Games.   I love the pagentry, the comraderie of athletes and spectators, the blending of culture, the opportunities for food - well….everything!   I’ve been lucky enough to attend two sets of Olympic Games in the United States, had a friend attend one in Sarajevo and haven’t missed an opening ceremony since I first became aware of the games sometime in the 1970′s.

I didn’t know I was teaching music appreciation until the hubster told me.   Seriously.

I never thought about the eclectic collection of music that I play while conducting daily lessons; it’s merely music that I’ve collected over the years and (mostly) still like.  Sure, it dates me a bit -(so does the gray in my hair and I’m not worried about THAT) but I’m not trying to be hipster mom.  Matter of fact, I don’t WANT to listen to the “new stuff” (oh gosh, now I DO sound like “A MOM”) because then I have to listen to every song to decide whether the lyrics/content are appropriate for my 8 year old girl child.  So my new justification for NOT listening is that I’m teaching music appreciation!
