It’s not a secret. Sometimes marriage sucks. Men and women just don’t think alike. Maybe that’s why John Gray has made millions. How can you love somebody and yet detest them with every fiber of your being. How does that happen when 15 years ago you couldn’t wait to spend an evening hanging out with them?

Every mother, particularly new ones, discover a whole new realm of fear once they have given birth. I freaked out on the car ride home with my first born son. Every vehicle on the road was a speeding bullet headed toward my baby. I was a nervous wreck on the freeway. They don’t really warn you about that, even in “What to Expect” and they are great at giving expecting mothers things to worry about.

Sometimes we make mistakes as parents. It happens. We get tired, frustrated, suffer from poor judgement or sleep loss, or just get plain delusional. Sometimes circumstances just work against us.

Which is how I ended up taking three kids grocery shopping. It doesn’t happen that often. Between school and the mixed blessing of my husband’s odd ball work schedule, I can usually find a way to gather the food without their presence. But at least once during the summer, I find myself needing to shop when he is gone, and I haul my brood with me.

The witching hours are fraught with peril, are they not? I used to laugh when I would see the phrase “witching hour”. Singular? Seriously? The period from after school until bedtime had the potential to turn me into the parental equivalent of Jack Torrance in The Shining: feeling trapped and more than a little crazy.

Life changes when your baby goes mobile. We know this, or we learn it pretty damn quickly! I have to laugh at one of my friends, as she is on her first baby. She is battling her first round of teething. She reminds me so much of myself that I can predict what her comments will be once her darling daughter gets past the crawling stage. Bound to be colorful, to say the least.
