Talkin’ Texan

I like to joke about the way I talk.  I tend to describe it  as like Ray Romano and Fran Drescher had a love child.  It’s a unique blend of Midwestern nasal twang combined with a Texas accent on occasion.

Funny…Makes Funny

Last week a friend told me I wasn’t very funny when I was pregnant. Personally I challenge anyone to strap on a 30 pound watermelon, try to shave their right leg…oh, and then crack a smile. Look, it’s not about being funny. Looking funny, yes. Being funny, no.

Growing our food

One of the great things about living in my town in Michigan is that it is farm country.  There is just something to be said about living where food is grown.  Most areas around here have festivals celebrating their major crop, thus we have pickle, corn, and potato festivals to name a few.

Mother’s Day

I recently had to email my mom and tell her that there was no way I could get a card to her in time for Mother’s Day.  Fortunately my mom is very cool like that, not one of those guilt tripping martyr mothers who would act like it was the end of the world because you didn’t make it to the store that week to honor her.  No, that isn’t how she rolls.  Well, she also thought my youngest son’s birthday was a month later than it actually is, so she was feeling very forgiving!

Horse Puckey!

Spring!  It’s coming – I can feel it.

A few warm days, robins pecking at the dirt, birds singing in the morning and the tips of my crocus poking through the dirt are all the proof that I need that it’s just around the corner.  Spring…….when my fancy turns to

What’s cooking?

My Grams will frequently lament on those days she has to run errands how she hates to go home to a house that doesn’t smell nice.  By this she means, no good food smells.  I have to agree.  In the dark days of winter, a house does seem warmer when the aroma of a meal on the stove is tantalizing you.  It isn’t that often that her home doesn’t yank at your appetite.  I have merely stepped on her porch and caught a whiff of something that made my stomach growl.

Gains & Losses

Are you thinking you’ll be reading about my never ending battle of the bulge?  The skirmishes of the Thunder Thighs versus the Ballooning Butt?

Sure, I could rail on and on about the roller coaster ride of weight loss and gain but which of us hasn’t been there before?

Peace and Tranquility…Ahhhh!

This blog is dedicated to all the overly stressed out moms out there in cyberland, who have had those moments of “peace and tranquility”, however few and far between they may have been.

Indiana Faith

My favorite illustration of what faith is comes from Raiders of the Lost Ark. You probably expected me to write about a great Biblical character like Abraham, David or Moses. But, it’s Indiana who is my main man when it comes to visualizing faith (not that he lived a more faithful life than those Biblical giants, it’s just my warped view).

Music to Learn By

I didn’t know I was teaching music appreciation until the hubster told me.   Seriously.

I never thought about the eclectic collection of music that I play while conducting daily lessons; it’s merely music that I’ve collected over the years and (mostly) still like.  Sure, it dates me a bit -(so does the gray in my hair and I’m not worried about THAT) but I’m not trying to be hipster mom.  Matter of fact, I don’t WANT to listen to the “new stuff” (oh gosh, now I DO sound like “A MOM”) because then I have to listen to every song to decide whether the lyrics/content are appropriate for my 8 year old girl child.  So my new justification for NOT listening is that I’m teaching music appreciation!
